How to Thrive and Be Enough

When I start to give the same recommendations to numerous clients, I realize I need to send you the information, too.

These goodies will help you to live a life you love wholeheartedly — body and soul.  Really, they’re golden.

You’ll love Thrive: Finding Happiness the Blue Zones Way by Dan Buettner, a bestselling author for the National Geographic.  He distills years of research on happiness into something you can consume easily.

He reveals the secrets to happiness by looking at happy people from all over the world.  We’re drilling down into the essence of what makes humans happy.

And the point is by looking at the happiest thrivers on the planet –

We can also learn from others.  It is an unhappy person who wants to experience interest, enthusiasm, contentment, peace, and joy, he or she can make it happen by learning the habits of a happy person. –Happiness researcher Sonja Lyubomirsky

You’ll find some of the results may run counter to your intuition.  Other items I’ve been touting for years – e.g. more money doesn’t really make much difference to your happiness after you reach a minimum level.

Chapter Six – Lessons on Thriving summarizes beautifully – read it.

Here’s the last paragraph – an even more condensed summary.

You can shape your own environment to live better and longer, too.  The best way to do that as we’ve seen is to follow the practices of the world’s most experienced thrivers:

  • Set reasonable goal for your life.
  • Seek out of place to live where people are already thriving.
  • Choose a community where you can live out your own interests.  Find a modest house in a neighborhood of other modest houses, with neighbors you can call friends and sidewalks that let you walk where you need to go.
  • Recognize your purpose in living each day.
  • Take time to appreciate the arts.
  • Find a job that you love without worrying too much about the salary.  Find a hobby that fuels your passions.
  • Take six weeks of vacation no matter what.
  • Set your life, so that you’re physically active every day.
  • Spend six hours a day with your lover, kids, and a handful of TRUE friends.
  • Meditate, pray, or nap daily.

Obviously, get the book, it’s a quick read, then implement the ideas

Wayne Muller Has Helped Me Hugely

I don’t know how this three-minute video came to me, but I am advising that people listen to Wayne Muller’s wisdom once a day. He will convince you that you’re enough – You are the light of the world.  You are saturated with innate natural perfection.

OK.  The video inspired me to get this book – Get A Life of Being, Having, and Doing Enough.

His earlier book Legacy of the Heart : The Spiritual Advantage of a Painful Childhood will heal you.  I have been recommending this for a year now and work with its methods every day.

You can watch more Wayne Muller videos here.

Walk in beauty,

William

P.S. According to the World Database of Happiness the top ten countries are:  Costa Rica, Denmark, Ireland, Switzerland, Finland, Mexico, Norway, Canada, Panama, and Sweden.  The USA holds 20th place – room for improvement.
