How You Can Use Any Book as an Oracle

In a time of deep uncertainty, I find oracles can help me to feel into my next good steps.  From my book, The Twenty Second Smile

 When Clueless…

Because these waves passing through me ruffle my cool and boost my fear, I feel lost and rudderless.  Clueless as to how to proceed, I consult the millennia-old sage, the I Ching.  She gives me the straight poop in her own convoluted way.  But it’s enough.  I take another step.

In my recent Instagram account post, I mentioned using The Twenty Second Smile as an oracle for my day. You might gain some valuable insight from using an oracle too.

What Do You Gain from Using an Oracle?

An oracle lets you bypass routine fretful thinking and go deeper into your intuition.

You can find many kinds of oracles, they all work.  I like book oracles, and they have had a long history.  The I Ching has served people for millennia.

To generate the reading you toss three coins to generate a specific hexagram, one of 64.  Look up the hexagram in your book and you have your oracle.

In my book – The Wizard’s Handbook: How to Get Answers and Make the Right Decision, I talk about book oracles.  Any book can be used.  I proved it by using the yellow pages.  You remember those?  I prefer to use books of wisdom.

The Original I Ching stands as my favorite.

Now, I’m having fun using The Twenty Second Smile which contains all the wisdom I know.  (I hope you took advantage of the recent giveaway.)

It’s super effective.  I do it along with my morning meditation.

How to Get a Reading

Form a question that you want answered.  It can be simple e.g. What is coming up in the universe for me today?  Recently, I asked if it was time to close my office.  Yikes.

I hasten to add, you can best use the oracle to support your deep thinking, and meditating on a topic, especially, life changing ones.

You can open the book to a random page and read what you find there.  Sit with it and let it work on you and with you.  Ponder.

I am playing with Google’s random number generator these days.  It gives me a page to go to.  I fill in the page number of the first chapter in the min box, and the last page that has chapters in the max.  So for The Twenty Second Smile I set it for 10 and 205.

It looks like this:

So, it tells me to look at p. 46 to get my reading.  Easy.  I got this page two days ago.  I still need that message:  Stop Scaring Yourself.  Don’t read the news.

May you walk in beauty,

William
