This will mean nothing to you if you haven’t reached a certain age. O for Older people.
A client asked me for some tips on surrendering in the middle of facing scary medical challenges. I shared a very simple idea that has given me great comfort.
Dear Athena,
My favorite way to surrender at our age is to recall this instruction –
“Relax, you’re going to die.”
I love this. Clearly, we’re going to die. We don’t know when, so we can relax.
It will happen and it will happen the way it happens. We can’t get it wrong. Ahh… so peaceful.
Finally, I can quit worrying about getting it wrong. Whatever I do, however I die, it will be good enough and beautiful for its uniqueness. It will be my death, no-one else’s.
No-where to go, no-thing to do.
Ahh… Relax.
: )
In love,
William
For more advanced work, try this:
“Relax, she’s going to die.”
“Relax, he’s going to die.”
As we mature, these ideas become more necessary for full enjoyment of life.
May you be happy, wild, and free,
William
