A Quintessential Seattle Sight

quintessential seattle by life coach William Wittmann

On my morning constitutional, I saw this heron standing on a post with the Space Needle in the background across Elliot Bay.

Fun for me to see and draw – Iconic Seattle.

In my book, Color the Sky Yellow: Creative Magic, Playful Art for Your Inner Child, I talk about making your own coloring book by inking in some outlines and then coloring in the rest of the image any way you want.  You can see I did just that here.

Besides showing you a pretty picture, I want to point out that I colored it the way I wanted.  Not one part was the way a photograph would have represented it.  I painted what my heart saw.

Frequently, I ask clients, “What do you want?”  Seems like an easy question, but for many, it seems an insurmountable task.   They haven’t a clue what they want.

Why?  Because as children, what they wanted didn’t matter.  What mattered was reading the signs and delivering what their parents wanted.  For some, their survival depended on it.  Later they needed to discover what the schools wanted.  And even later – what the culture expected.

“What do you want?” I ask.

“I don’t want her to be angry.” She said.

“OK.  That’s what you don’t want.”  I said.  “What do you want?”

We go back and forth until with great difficulty as she uncovers what she wants and says, “I want to feel safe.”

It could be lots of things such as:

  • I want to be happy.
  • I want to be healthy.
  • I want to be prosperous.
  • I want to work in a job that feeds my soul and my bank account.

Everyone knows, the Sky is blue or gray.  Painting the sky yellow is what I wanted.  Just violating the rules like this can give you lots of freedom to paint outside the lines and color the sky yellow in your life.

What do you want?

Choose from the left side of the menu.

Or start with some drawings.

You can get the book and play => Color the Sky Yellow: Creative Magic, Playful Art for Your Inner Child

May you walk in beauty and color the sky any color you want,
