Big Magic
I tried to read massive bestseller, Eat Pray Love by Elizabeth Gilbert. I didn’t get very far. So unless my friend, TA, hadn’t passionately recommended Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear by Elizabeth G, I would have missed it.
Further, TA recommended I listen to it as an audio book because Liz reads it. It feels like an encouraging conversation with an intimate friend especially if she talks directly into your ears through ear buds.
I have recommend Big Magic to many clients, my daughters, and Suzanne. I’m on my second time through.
First, the book is for you and for me and every other human because we as humans are creators despite what the culture told us.
Second, living beyond fear has become a necessity in our current fear mongering atmosphere.
Here’s a story from the book:
A teacher friend of hers starts her class in the environmental science department by asking two questions:
- How many of you love nature? Every hand goes up.
- How many of you feel nature loves you? Every hand goes down.
The teacher says, “Then we have a problem.”
Liz goes on to talk about how we are connected, or can be with the living entity of Nature. How in fact we are co-creators with Nature.
Liz asks her students similar questions with similar results.
- How many of you love writing?
- How many of you feel writing loves you?
Most talk about how much suffering they have at the hands of their art.
Gilbert says, “Quit it.”
Me too.
I’m working on a book with the working title – Paint the Sky Yellow. In this book, I urge you to use sketching, drawing, and painting to learn about this union first hand. To feel this reciprocity of love. When you sketch, you can have a direct experience of this love flowing from your heart and returning.
Both of our books are not so much about writing or painting but about making up a life that works for you by creating it in ways that bring you joy in harmony with Big Magic.
Feed yourself some Big Magic and enjoy a life you love wholeheartedly, body and soul.
Go for it => Big Magic: Creative Living Beyond Fear
May you walk in beauty,
William
